What about Idle Legacy?

So I published my 2nd game ‘Test Subject Idle’ and some of you might be wondering…

What about Idle Legacy?

I love what I’ve created in Idle Legacy - the story, the characters, the world of Sparos, it’s deep lore I spent tons of time crafting - but the gameplay itself is something I can’t seem to get right. After many rebuilds , different engines, complete redesigns..

I still don’t know what this game wants to be.

What do I mean by this? In short, the game is too convoluted and too many things happening that seem just thrown together with no real way of making one system play off of the others. It’s a concept/ idea that I know has a ton of potential, but seemingly too big a project for me to handle at the current moment.

If I can find a way to keep the main thing the main thing - cut everything out and keep the ‘number go up’ + story/ illustrations/ 1 line of text per page - I will likely redo the game again, with its own itch io page, and call the OG Idle Legacy depreciated or something.

My brain wants me to make the biggest game possible with deep mechanics and systems, but my abilities are simply not there yet.

It was my first game that people actually played

And I learned a ton. Mostly I learned how to take and listen to feedback, understand what players expect from this genre of incremental/ idle games that I love so much. In the end it became way too hard to balance the mechanics and systems because I was throwing everything at the game and seeing what sticks, trying to make up for depth in one area by building out whole new areas, and that doesn’t work.

I think the concept of the game makes it possible to go in so many different directions and I’m finally understanding I need to find a narrow lane and stick to it. narrow but deep, not wide and shallow. That’s how I view the game in its current state - wide and shallow. I want to bring back the simplicity of before the game even had combat/ enemies , let alone the mining, the pets, the potions, the gold, it’s all waaaaay to much to balance for my small brain.

The next time you see Idle Legacy pop up, it will most likely be a new slimmed down version , with a completely new look ( again ) built from scratch (again).

The Voidweaver will return, someday.
